About Autobahn

The legendary German roadway where you can drive as fast as you want, the autobahn, may not actually be a scene out of a street-racing movie like we imagine. For one thing, there is a recommended speed limit of 80 mph on most of the autobahn, and traffic jams are fairly common just like any other highway. One thing to prepare for if you plan on traveling down this famous highway is that none of the directional signs give any cardinal directions, only city names, so make sure to either know where you’re headed or keep your GPS handy.

Did you Know?

Most of us probably know autobahn is German, but most don’t know the word comes from the combination of two German words. Auto, meaning car, and Bahn, meaning road. Literally that comes out to car road, which is kind of a generic name for one of the most well known roadways in the world.
